Target Audience Enterprises looking for comprehensive data protection solutions.

Cohesity DataProtect manages securing and recovering enterprise data across diverse environments, including virtual and physical servers, cloud-native applications, and SaaS workloads, by implementing a robust, policy-based protection framework. Designed on zero-trust principles, DataProtect integrates multiple data protection functions into a single solution, which can be deployed either on-premises or consumed as a cloud-based service (BaaS).

The technical architecture of DataProtect leverages immutability, WORM (Write Once, Read Many) storage, AES-256 encryption, multifactor authentication, and granular role-based access control to prevent unauthorized data modifications or deletions. It supports a wide range of workloads, including hypervisors like VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V, Kubernetes-based applications, and enterprise databases such as Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server. The solution also features an API-first architecture with RESTful APIs, Python SDK, and PowerShell modules for integration and automation.

Operationally, DataProtect is optimized for high-performance backup and recovery, offering near-zero recovery point objectives (RPOs) and near-instant recovery time objectives (RTOs). The Cohesity Helios unified control plane enables rapid search and recovery of data across any Cohesity cluster, regardless of location. However, the scalability of the solution can be limited by the complexity of the environment and the volume of data being protected, which may impact query performance and storage costs, particularly in multi-cloud setups.

From a technical standpoint, DataProtect employs global variable-length sliding-window deduplication and compression to enhance storage efficiency. It also includes features like capacity prediction, proactive system wellness, and performance balancing to ensure optimal system operation. The BaaS option, hosted on AWS and Microsoft Azure, provides flexibility and cost savings by eliminating the need for on-premises hardware and offering an OpEx spend model.
