The Laminar Data Security Platform manages maintaining visibility and control over sensitive data in multi-cloud and SaaS environments. This platform employs an autonomous, agentless, and asynchronous architecture to continuously discover and classify all cloud-resident data, including structured, unstructured, and shadow data, without the need for configuration or passwords for each data store.
At its core, Laminar leverages multi-step contextual validation to precisely identify and classify sensitive data such as PII, PHI, and PCI. It integrates several key components: Data Landscape Intelligence provides a holistic view of the data inventory; Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) enforces policies and safeguards sensitive data with risk-based prioritization; Data Access Governance (DAG) controls user and machine access to minimize exposure; and Data Detection and Response (DDR) alerts on data breaches and anomalies in real-time to contain threats quickly.
Operationally, Laminar utilizes serverless functions that interact with cloud service providers' APIs to scan the environment, ensuring that data never leaves the customer's environment. This approach avoids performance impacts and maintains consistent security and governance across multi-cloud setups, including AWS, Azure, GCP, Snowflake, and various SaaS applications. However, the platform's effectiveness can be limited by the complexity of the cloud environment and the volume of data, which may affect the granularity and timeliness of risk assessments and remediation recommendations.
Technically, Laminar's data-centric risk model prioritizes controls and notifications based on data sensitivity, volume, and exposure, providing actionable remediation guidance tailored to each cloud environment. The platform also offers 360-degree data access monitoring, detecting anomalies in data transfers and providing precise notifications and remediation guidance for data leakages. While this comprehensive approach streamlines data security, it requires careful management to avoid overwhelming the security team with alerts and to ensure that the platform scales efficiently with the organization's data growth.
